In the documentary Where to Invade Next, Michael Moore “invades” countries around the world attempting to bring ideas back to the United States. He wants to find ways to make America better and allow the country to grow without going to war and fighting. To begin his journey he travelled to Italy where he discussed workers conditions. He met with business owners and learned workers in Italy are given eight weeks paid vacation each year(In America paid vacation is not required). They believe that vacation relieves stress and without stress no one will get sick, and this seems to work because Italy's average life expectancy is five years longer than America's. In his next invasion of France he went to learn more about what the kids are taught in elementary school. Their schools consider lunch a class where a chef makes them nutritious meals everyday, which teaches the kids proper nutrition and food etiquette. Educating kids in this area helps to promote lifelong health amongst the population. When Moore traveled to Finland next he wanted to learn how they climbed to the top country in education. There trick was revealed as it was to have the kids spend less time in school and give them no homework. They believed this gave kids time to do other activities and have them grow as people more which strengthens their brains. Before this change in schooling policies Finland was at the bottom of education with America but with these changes they reached the top in a few years. Next on his invasion, he went to Slovenia, where kids go to college for free. This country allows Americans to come and go to college for free along with everyone else, and offer a better education. In America most people coming out of college are drowning in debts which prevents them from having stable funds of money and this can hold people back from many things. His next tip he picked up was from Germany where workers are stress free. It is a law that people are not allowed to work more than 36 hours a week and when they leave work, they’re not allowed to be contacted. Having this policy helps workers disconnect from work ad enjoy their life and families more, but also leads to more production during work. In portugal, Moore learned about a different way the police worked. Here it is legal to have drugs and you will not be arrested for drug possession. Their drug rate is a lot lower than the United States and they believe this is because people are not criminalized for having drugs. Moore wanted to learn more about Norway, so when he travelled here he learned about their prison system. Here jail is about rehabilitation and letting people grow from their mistakes. Each criminal has their own room and takes classes from math to culinary arts. This allows criminals to grow and in Norway, their rearrest rate within 5 years is a lot lower than America's. Moore’s invasions continued as he traveled to Tunisia where women are treated equal with men. Women's health clinics are easily available and abortion is legal allowing woman to control their own bodies. In Moore’s final invasion he went to Iceland where woman are truly equal among businesses. Iceland was the first country to elect a woman democratic president and now women are equal in all businesses. After Moore travels to all these countries he realizes that all of these ideas are from America originally. America has the potential to grow without help but just needs to realize it.
