Here I provide an introduction to my life-choice memoir assignment and links to the relevant blog posts that served as part of my writing process.
A memoir is a biography written from a personal experience. When first given the assignment of writing a memoir about a major life-choice in my life I struggled, unable to think of something. I am seventeen years old and could not think of a major life decision I have had to make. When I went back and read my blog post about decisions I have faced I came across: Life Choice: The Powers That Be? In fourth grade I had to quit gymnastics and this was tough emotionally for me, so I thought this would be a good topic to write about.
When I first began my memoir I was challenged and unsure how to begin the paper. I had quit gymnastics a few years ago After I began the rest kind of flowed as the memory of the event became more clear to me. Even though I wrote the paper I recognized that it still needed to be edited, I reflected on my first draft in my blog post: Life-Choice Memoir Reflection. After having a conference I decided to go back through my paper and for my second draft I developed my relationship with Hannah more. She was a major part of my decision and I thought that her part was undermined in the first draft. During my third draft I had revised grammatical mistakes and made my telling portion of my injuries a bit smaller in order to keep the focus of the story.
